last car i changed it at 98K miles. This one's on 162K and i'm not sure if the timing belt needs to be replaced or not... I will be changing it very soon.

104K miles for my 97 Civic (service manual recommends replacement at 105K miles under normal driving conditions).

I blew a timing belt on my '89, two valve jobs later it still wasn't right. I advocate every other year, but after that experience I'm paranoid about it

Every other year is really extreme (unless you drive 50K miles/year!), but yeah you don't want to repeat that mistake.
