How do I locate the wire? It seems like it would almost be impossible to find the open in the wire.

The wire is white with green stripes. You can see what it looks like at terminal 12 of the connector for the power lock control unit. The job is difficult but not impossible. Try to trace the wire harness from the power lock control unit to the under-hood fuse box. Try to find junctions in between where you can get access to and identify the wire. By the way, the point where the wire harness passes from the driver's door to the area under the dash might be a location to focus on due to the constant opening and closing of the door.

 

How di I find the wire though? Where does it run, under the dash?

 

Okay, the WHT/GRN wire is routed from the the under-hood fuse box within the main wire harness through the firewall and then runs under the dash through connectors C401/C555 (above under dash fuse box; see service manual) and finally through connectors C556/C631 in the driver's door.

Start by testing the continuity of the WHT/GRN wire between connectors C555 and C556.

 

Hi Ron, I'm not sure if you're still around or not but thanks for all the great detailed info. I just bought a 1998 Civic for my daughter and I'm having the same issue with the door locks. The weird problem I have is when checking the voltage at the door lock switch I have voltage at all three pins. I figured I would have 0V at the black wire, but I'm showing battery voltage. Have you seen this before?

 

I had this same issue and took days to figure out that the wires were broken off at the plug that goes into the door from the car. Over time I guess the wire get brittle and snap off at the pins. Pull back the rubber boot and unplug the harness from the door and inspect the wires as they go into the pins in the plug. I had to solder the wires back to the pins one by one and everything worked fine after that. I found it easier to pull off the driver side fender to give me easy access to the harness and used brake clean to clean off the grease from the harness (make sure when done to put new dielectric grease back on). I had 3 wires that had broken off and ended up fixing them all to be safe. Was a pain in the *** but it did the job. My brother has the same issue on his Civic a few months later so I guess it's a common issue.
