Q About o2 Sensors and Autometer Gauges
Ok I basically have my interior all taken out of my car right now (changing it to back) and I though while I have the a-pillar out I might as well put the gauges on it now instead of taking it off yet again later to do it when I boost my car (probably about a year from now, already buying parts)
My question is what happens to your o2 sensors when you convert to obd1 and have a downpipe insted of a header? The reason I ask is because I am looking at an air/fuel (link) gauge and it says that I will not work with a wideband. I know my car has a narrow band but will I still have that when I turbo my car? Can I still hook it to the (white?) wire on the o2 sensor?

i think that it should work with a wide band unless it doesnt have the wires to hook up to your ECU...or how ever wide bands are wired. I bought a narrow band and every one told me they were junk and to get rid of it....my only advice, find a guage that will support it (Defi makes pretty good guages) because narrow bands suck the big one. and btw, im not exactly sure what color the wire/s are, but your guage should have the insturctions to tell you which wire you need...like power or ground, and you just have to figure out what color that is...(all manufactures vary) you can find all of that info in your haynes or helms manual.
i think when they chip/tune your ECU, they remove any CELs you get from removing the o2 sensors, and if you wnat to use a wideband o2 snesor you need to weld a bung into your downpipe
i dont know how air/fuel guages are hooked up but to me they are pointless anyway. if you are going to get something that measures your air/fuel ratios i would suggest the aem gauge or a wideband. from what i understand though your air/fuel gauge will go into a bung in your downpipe in which you have to make. then you will have to weld another o2 bung for your tuner to get the wideband in there. the best bet for gauge would be oil pressure, boost and egt. those are the three best guages to have and i think a lot of people here would agree with me on it.
oh crap...i missunderstood. yea, a/f guages are pretty pointless....because when your tunner tunes your car, he will have a/f ratio on his lap top...so after its tuned, you really dont need to see it because it wont be able to tell you much about whats going on except fuel starvation....like tyler said, boost, oil, and egt will be your best 3...however, i know im only going with a 2 guage pod, and ill be using boost/oil....egt will let you know how close you are to melting stuff...but i dont think ill ever need that.
^ i'll agree, unless you have the stock engine temp guage in your cluster, then an aftermarket one is kinda pointless, but as for hooking up the a/f gauge, its the white wire in your primary o2 sensor. Thats the signal wire for the sensor, so wire the narrowband gauge into that.
Yea basically what I mean is, will I still have my stock o2 sensors to tap the gauge onto? But I guess I might just go with the boost, oil pressure, then exhaust gas temp.
