vtec controller????
i have a 95 civic ex coupe and i was wondering if it is worth it to put in a vtec controller and if i do could i have problems with my car after i put it in and if i should put a vtec controller in then any suggestions on what brand?
I think VTEC controllers are pretty nifty little devices. Jackson racing ones are pretty good. Should run around 150-200 bucks. And as with anything, if you install it right, you shouldnt have any car troubles.
what mods do you have done to your car? with a stock motor vtec contorler is pretty much useless. Sure, you can bring down the vtec engagement point a little, and lean it out a bit, but it wont make that much of a difference. Id look in to somehting like a cold air intake or exhuast if you havent already.
if you dont know how to run it, forget it. the power gains on a mostly stock car are next to nothing, and chances are youll hurt power more than help it. spend the money on bolt-ons for now, then once you have a bunch of stuff done, you can start thinking about a controller of some sort.
i already have a cold air intake and a axle back exhaust. i am lookin to put on AEM trupower pullies, are those even worth putting on? i am basically looking for more power gain w/o s/c, turbo, or spray. any suggestions?
what do vtec controllers do? do they add more power and just allow u to set the vtec engagment at lower rpms? or both? right now i have I/H/E, short throw shifter, and performance spark plugs, so would it be worth getting it? i have the same year/model as jad1217(95 ex).
Honda set vtec up to come on at a certain point for a reason. The only time I would ever tell anyone to change it is if they have major breathing mods like head work, cam[s], higher compression. But I dont say hey you have this now change your vtec, take the car to a dyno and change it there. No point in doing this if it does not add power and as much as the ol butt dyno tells you dont ever think it is correct
