will a vtec distributor work on a non vtec head??.. 2 of the3 bolts will line up.... will it work

i have a 92 hatch that had the 1.5 bottom nothing now has a d16z6 vtec the swap was done before i bought it. i have the same problem my bottom 2 bolts line up but the top is just a lil high and wont fit.i cant find one that fits either, but it runs with it like that, the shaft lines up to the cam so it works just seems kindajimmied. hope that helps and if not if u find the problem let me know.
