b16a vs b18c is it worth it

i have read a lot of dissing on the b16a but the numbers i got was a b16a with 170hp 113tq for $2250 for a complete changeover and a b18c with 180hp and 126tq for $3149 for the complete change over so i'm curious if it is worth the extra $900 to get that extra 10 hp and 13 tq or if it would be better to get the b16 and drop the $900 in to say full exhaust and intake

RE: b16a vs b18c is it worth it

i have both swaps and i would say either one would be a great choice. i heard the b16 is better for turbo's so if your looking to do that in the future maybe the b16 is a better choice

RE: b16a vs b18c is it worth it

the only thing i recommend doing is buy a new clutch and flywheel and new axles and plugs wires and cap. this way you know those parts are brand new. I used one of the axles that came with the swap and snapped it like 3 months later. Autozone has lifetime warranty on there gsr axles so i suggest getting them somewhere that does that just in case..

ya a lot of people will try to put down the b16, but thats a nice engine and I would just save the money and get it.

RE: b16a vs b18c is it worth it

well i have a gsr and would never get a different one, and i think the gsr is better for bbost cause the b16a is a high compression motor

absoulute 06-28-2007 05:29 PM

RE: b16a vs b18c is it worth it

yea gsr axles can be used on a b16 also thats what i have on my civic..

i don't know which one is better for boost just seems like everyone says b16

GSR B18C swap, lower compression, extra displacement. If you want to dig in a little more use a B16 head and intake manifoldon a B18C gsr engine. Then get a set of CTR B16B cams and you got a nice setup.

I am gonna tell you guys right now I don't really know a whole lot about cars but I am going to learn.
One thing I am sure of is that I want an engine swap. Sooooo... About this whole b16 with turbo...

Anyone know any sites that would be selling a nice b16 for kinda cheap?
Or maybe what car to look under at advance auto parts for a niceb16? (I work there. Yay discount!)

well the thing with the b16 is, its a higth hp motor, but low torque, if ur tight on money go with the ls its 145 hp but with 127 lbs torque, more than the gsr!!!, its also same price or cheaper then the b16 and its a great motor for boost

Whether its worth it or not is up to the person buying the swap. With that extra 900 dollars you could get the b16a and put a few mods on it to come close to/equal to the power the b18c puts down.

However, the b18c will always have more potential. You could open the b16 to 1.8L, but you could open the b18c to 2.0L.

More displacement will always have a better advantage in the modifications department. It's up to the person doing the swap to know what they want and the best way to achieve their goals.

The gsr is a much better engine. The extra $ is worth it. I didnt even consider a B16, I went right to the JDM Gsr.

RE: b16a vs b18c is it worth it

count me as another vote for the gsr...the extra displacement really helps.

The GSR is a great engine if your going do un upgrade swap you need to add some displacement. The extra torque is a ****ing blast to. I just complested my GSR swap a few weeks ago.

for some reason most honda motors are not torquey, i mean yea the b18c has a decent amount of torque, but iwouldnt say crazyyy

I didn't want to start a new topic because this one was already talking about the gsr engine. i found a place that sells them with everything i think that you need i'm not sure. someone can correct me on this. heres the url http://www.jdmenginescorp.com/index....;products_id=4
