Default low $ engine swap???

I'm going to try to put in as much background as possible. My son has a 93 dx that threw the timing belt and destroyed the motor. It cracked 1 cylinder and 2 pistons had valves go through them. We pulled it out and disposed of it (engine only). He tells me it was a d15b2 but according to what I've found a 93 should have been a b7. He bought a 92 integra ls that is rotting away but has a good motor with tranny that is supposed to be a b18a1 which seems to match what I've read. Now after doing a number of searches I have a few questions cause I've seen conflicting info.
1. Can we put the b18 in the dx, both motors are obd

2. Does it matter which transmission we use, I noticed the bolt pattern on the flywheels and clutch are different but it looks like either tranny will bolt up.

3. Is this a reasonably easy swap

4. Do we need anything special to do the swap

4. If we need anything special who gives the best service without bankrupting me.

For now this is just going to be a commuter car for him but may be something that we play with later when we have more cash. Thanks in advance for anything you guys can help with. I've found more help on forums than any book could ever provide.

you can swap the motors. (FYI it is a d15b7) you will need to use a lot of stuff for the swap, such as the transmission, axles, shift linkage, ecu, engine harness, probably new motor mounts. Ill find the few pages that had info on it. I think theres more to it. So ill post back in a lil while. If you have time, search honda-tech.com for more info as well

you can swap the b18a1 in fairly easily, but you need to use the b18's transmission. I believe for a bare-bones swap, you won't need anything extra (I'd recommend replacing all the high-wear items like the clutch, water pump, timing belt, ignition system, etc). If the civic has a/c or p/s, I think you'll need to order brackets, but other than that everything should fit just fine (I think you can use the engine mounts from the integra in the civic with no problems.) Also, b-series swaps into civics have been done for pretty much forever; they're so popular because they're little more than a bolt-in swap (I think there's a tiny bit of wiring, but other than that, it's pretty much a drop-in swap). Also, remember to use the ecu from the integra.

Thanks guys but this is a perfect example I'm running in to. One says easy swap most everything works, one says lots of changes. I do plan on clutch while its out. And I'm also on hondatech per your suggestion.

GReddy was saying pretty much what I was saying; he meant you have to use the parts from the b18. I just meant if you have the integra sitting around, you won't need to actually buy anything other than the high-wear parts

pretty much, you'll be getting rid of everything for the civic engine, and replacing it with integra parts.

Thanks again guys! We are ordering el cheapo swap motor mounts and a new clutch tonite since my son doesn't have a lot of cash and it is "his" car. I tried to find out about using the 92 Integras motor mounts but according to a friend that works at the local parts store they are different than the 94 so we'll just order the cheapies. Also can anyone tell me about modifying the shift linkage, from what I've been able to find and haspro site the "stock" linkage won't work. I have another friend who is an excellent fabricator and I am sure he could fab something up for me. Like I said this is supposed to be low $ for my son's sake. And now my younger son's Toyota just died so it looks like the fun just never ends. Gawd I can't wait till they are out on their own, I'm gonna move and not leave a forwarding address.

bahahaha...you should be able to use the shift linkage for whatever swap you use...ex. if you use the ls motor, you should be able to use a bseries shift linkage, at least im pretty sure

yeah, the b-series shift linkage should work for you.

(also, for your younger son... you should help him do a rwd conversion and 2jz-gte (toyota supra twin turbo engine) swap )
