What if...
I would like to swap out the D15B7 in my '95 DX for another engine--and I'm saving up for the swap rather than going FI or Mini-me because of what I've read here--but I still want to make the thing pass smog without swapping the new engine out and putting it back in again every two years. Is this possible? I know that the guys at the smog shop check the internals of the car, so even if you pass the sniff test, the guys could still fail you if they see anything not CARB-exempt. I know what some of you are thinking. I'm not hooked up with anyone who do smog tests, so I can't sweet talk anyone into passing me when I've done a swap (I think it's a good idea to have friends in high places, though). Any insights on this, people? I'm thinking of getting a B18C1/C5, a GX20 or a K20A2, by the way.
where you located? im going to be facing off with the BAR guy in a couple of months. supposedly its very possible to pass Ref with a swap. ill let you know. oh, and the basics are that the motor needs to be the same year or newer than the chassis, and needs to be set up like it would be in the donor car. all sensors and such in place. and all parts need E.O. numbers.
