d16y7-d16z6 mini-me motor build
Hey guys, ive been doing a lot of work to my civic lately, as some may have noticed lol. I converted it from auto to stick, and then put the z6 vtec head on the y7 block. I am considering going all motor and building it up. I've been looking at parts and other info and supposedly i can easily get 160hp off of an all motor setup. I just wanted to know what you guys thought about a sohc build and what kind of gains I can expect. I'm not going to get too elaborate with it though. I'm thinking about spending a maximum of $500. Opinions please!!

get y8 head gasket its thinner than the other head gaskets and will give more compression, also look for zc pistons, a friend of mine has a set i can get from him if you wanna buy them they will give good compression, also get a cam, and some head work done. also look into buying a lite wheight flywheel and a stage 1,2 clutch kit.

well how much do you want to spend?
you can get alot done.
but i'd say get it ported, and shaved a little to get a clean surface and a 3angle valve job and new valve seals

well for the head, without getting new parts for it. what can i get done to it at the machine shop for better performance? and since im a noob, what is porting, resurfacing, and stuff like that?

porting is boring the inside of the head out to allow better flow polishing would be smoothing of the ported surface to allow better flow also. resurfacing is... not positive but i think it is milling or shaving the surface of the head where it connects to the block so you have a flat surface to work with instead of a warped one and it will give you a tad bit more compression. i don't know about your town but where i live the place to have these things done is my local napa auto parts store they have a full machine shop in the back
