Engine Swap
I got a 1998 Honda Civic LX MT with a stock d16y7 engine in it. I am considering doing a mini swap with a b20 block and a b16 vtec head. Does that sound good or no? I don't know much but i have talked to a few people and they said thats a good way to go. I am looking to get nice good pull through all gears, and better acceleration while keeping good gas mileage. Is this h22a good too? What should I do? I'm looking for a good swap that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and does as described above. And I am thinking about boosting it with 10psi so any tips or help would be really nice. Like I said I'm not really savvy with all this so any help and descriptions and explanations will be greatly appreciated!! (:

I wouldn't recommend a b20v or H22 if you don't know much about Honda swaps... H22 swaps take rewiring and some conversions of things like converting from shift linkages to shift cables.. I had a fully built H22 but sadly it never made it in my car so I never got to experience it lol. B20v also takes some experience in building the engine and for it to work reliably, so I also wouldn't recommend that to you unless you plan on having a shop do it, more specificaly a shop that is experienced with Honda motors.
If you plan to do the swap yourself, you'llw ant something that is easy, such as a B16 (from Del Sol Vtec [B16a3] or 99-00 Si[B16a2 which you would want since it is obd2]) or a GSR (b18c1 from gsr Integra). All you'd need to do is buy the complete engine/trans from someone on like craigslist and put it in, don't need to deal with much wiring, and you won't need to do any engine work as it is all there together as one piece. |
If your 'not really savvy' dont do a ls/vtec or cr/vtec. You will end up with an expensive unreliable frankenstein that will just blow up. H22 is great NA but if your looking to boost you would need to get some work done to the block or ur gonna blow it up and God will cock slap you for ruining an h22.
If you want to boost and ur not looking to spend arms and legs just keep ur y7 and boost it. |

Funny but not true. H22 can take boost fine it just takes a good tune to prevent detonation. The higher compression the engine is the more prone it is to detonation, just takes a better tune or timing adjustment to help prevent it.

i always heard the sleeves are garbage on the h22. Dont know from experience tho.

Sleeves are frm (fibre reinforced metal). They are strong sleeves but you can't run forged pistons in the frm sleeves, pretty much the pictons will expand and scrape their skirts on the walls. So if you want a super high hp boosted h22 you will need to sleeve it to run forged lower comp pistons.

Yeah, it's not uncommon to see blown or boosted preludes running around with no problems.
Personally if I had an H22 I'd do a N/A build, but that would just be for baller status. |
n/a h22 yessir! i have always wanted an h22 w/ITBs. maybe that sick new bisi header. def baller status.

Stop all this talk of n/a h22s, make me regret selling my built one even more than I already do!!!
