Hey everyone, I came to this forum just lookin for some help. I figure there couldnt be a much better place to ask about my civic than hondcivicforum.com So here goes. I currently have a totaly stock 98 Civic LX 4dr. I got the cash for a new motor no problem, which I plan on doing after I get some questions answered. First of all, I can either get a B18C1 or a B16b, both come with tranny, axels, everything. I've been thinking that I may want to do some kind of forced induction later on, so which would be better for this kind of application? But before I get there, remember I said my car was an automatic. So that means I'll need to convert to manual. Getting the parts is no problem, but I was wondering how practical this would be. Leme know whatever you guys can tell me about a civic swap like this one. Anything you can tell me is fine. Also, if anyone here knows the name of a good tuner shop/garage in the Tampa, FL area, I would greatly appreciate any info, as I don't think a complete engine/tranny swap will be much fun by myself.

 

If you have the cash, either swap could be done with no problem with a turbo or supercherger added on. The auto to 5 speed conversion is easy enought with the right amount of cash also. Is it practical? I've had people tell me no but it's all up to you (if you dont mind spending the loot). You'll end up with somthing sweet in the end.

 

I would go with the B18C1 it has higher compression and more torque than than the B16b then with some force induction like turbo man. That would be an amazing machine. But I agree with ntxmotorports too.

 

if your going to boost buy a strail ls obd1 and have it set up for turbo, like head work turbo cams, pistons the works, no actuall with the tranny deal, i would get a auto and stay auto, not to many people have driven a auto ls turbo but i have its amazing, and if your taking it to the track, you will be better of staying close to yourdial in, be differend but as far as the b16b or the b18c(gsr) go b16b type R you can rev higher and god forbid the power you will have if you port and polish and hook up a direct port shot

 

ok. despite h22a's jumbled reply confusing the hell out of me, i'll try to respond. now. the b18c1 has lower compression than the b16b, making it more suitable for turbocharging, as well as more displacement. this will make a huge difference in the low end power as well as spooling the turbo faster. if cost becomes a factor, then you could consider a b20b out of a crv with an LS tranny and ecu witha piggyback fuel computer. it doesnt have VTEC but the extra displacement will make this a sweet turbo engine. and later on you could put on a b16 head and enjoy the power of a 2 liter turbo vtec. another option would be a b18c1 block and a b16a head. it will lower the compression of the b18 almost half a point, as well as flowing better than the b18c1 head. and the auto to manual shouldnt be a big deal for a decent shop.
