1.5i LS VTEC Pinking

Guys,

I have a 1.5i LS VTEC it's a 1998 model and done 127k, engine normally sounds mint but under load at around 2k it pinks a lot, I thought these engines had a knock sensor?

Any ideas?

I'm guessing you mean "ping" instead of pink.
