1995 lsi, cam belt snap, what to do?

my cam belt has just snapped on my 1995 lsi non vtec engine, i was wondering what the best thing to do is regarding whether any damage has ocurred to the valves etc, ie the car is only worth about 800 quid and i believe if their is a problem it will cost near 500 to fix, is their anyway of telling if any damage has been done without refitting a new timing belt which on its own would cost £100 quid plus and praying lol, would it be better to buy a replacement engine second hand or are these expensive as well?

sny help needed
cheers

i aint skilled wnought to take the head off, all ive managed to do is take the rocker cover off and the cam belt casing, which shows the cam belt totally sheered.
