1997 Honda Civic Ex temp gauge needle doesn't move
I just got my Ex to start running yesterday. When I was driving it I noticed the temp gauge wasn't moving at all. Or rather just alittle above the line from cold. Is that bad?

It could be low on coolant (which would manifest in overheating if left running long enough, usually, from my experience), a stuck thermostat, a bad gauge, any number of things. |
The coolant levels are good they're full. How would I check to see if it's a stuck thermo stay? Also the gauge does move but just alittle above the cold line. That's it. But the car isn't over heating

Check if you have any thermostat at all. The previous owner might have removed it.. Its a common trick people do before selling a car that has cooling system problems.

Does the heat in the car work?
If yes, the temp needle on the cluster is damaged, or the sensor/wire is damaged. If no, then check for a thermostat. Might as well just replace it ($10 part) while you are in there. |
