not sure if it would cause that, but is he using the B16 ECU?
is it throwing a CEL?

Yes the CEL is on...we talk to the guy he bought it from he supposedly said he put the stock distributor with spark plug wires...could that be the cause?

so you're using the D-series distributor and wires on the B16 engine?
if so, that might be a problem

i would get the B16 distributor just to be safe... especially since he said "just mess around with the distributor". Sounds like somethings wrong with it or it's like ghetto-rigged. I'm not sure if it would cause damage. But yea, I would get a new distributor just to be on the safe side, and so that it won't happen again.
