5w-20??
My wife just bought a new 07 Civic. The manual says use 5w-20 oil, and does not list any oil change intervals, just follow what the oil life moniter says. Si oil spec is 5w-30.
What do you guys think? Any problem with warranty if I switch to 5w-30. I don't care about whatever bit of gas mileage increase there might be. I would rather protect the engine, she keeps her car forever. I always domost of my own maintenance, including oil changes, how will that affect any future warranty issues? What about Amsoil and Mobil 1 with extended oil drain intervals and the Honda warranty? New to this forum, if there is a place where this has already been beat to death, just point me in that direction. I don't care to get into any debate over oil, just the effect on engine and warranty. |
RE: 5w-20??
no it wont void the warranty. depending where you live, most people use 5w30, or 10w30

RE: 5w-20??
Use what it says to use for that vehicle, or contact a dealer/manuf. if you have any questions. Most civics use 30 weight, but apparently not all. These oils are quite different.

RE: 5w-20??
use 5-20. the newer engines have tighter engine tolerances.
it costs the same as 5-30 so it won't hurt your pocketbook any and you'll be following manufacturers maintenance requirements should something go wrong with your engine. |

RE: 5w-20??
