89 Civic help

Ok, My friend has a 89 civic. it has the 1.6 liter engine in it. The timing belt slip and bent the valves. The engine has almost 300,000 miles on it. I am having a hard time finding a replacement up here in michigan. So i was wondering if anyone knows of some websites were i could buy a used motor or if anyone has one. I was also wondering if any other engine could fit in there with a moderate amount of work.

nippon-motors.com has some pretty reasonable priced motors for sale. I would suggest looking at a swap. You could pick up a good d16z6 or a ZC motor real cheap. Thats just my suggestion though. Good look on finding a motor.

+1 on dohc zc...if it already had MPFI then its a dirrect drop in and not that much modificatoin..and even if it doesnt...1 hour of wiring and its ready to go.

So how easy is it to swap a different honda engine in? Do some of them use the same mounts?

well if its the 1.6L engine then it must be a civic si. in that case you take the old engine out...put the zc in....same mounts, same tranny, same everything

RE: 89 Civic help

LikeHailchristian said if you have the 1.6 civic then you dont have to rewire for mpfi. That is the best part. See in my situation I have to rewire for everything. But I would still go with the ZC because with all those other swaps you gotta buy axles ecu motor mounts tranny and it doesn't just bolt in, which I think is the best part of the ZC. You gotta look at it this way because a ZC on average puts out bout 130 hp and the b16 160. So good luck.
