'93 Civic LX Engine Swap

Hello, i recently aquired a '93 Civic Lx 1.5L. The vehicle needs much work, but i wanted to start on the engine since the crankshaft is cracked!

I would like to make this a project car and wanted some suggestions about what type of engine i could swap out to make the car quicker and more powerful.

I'm not very knowledgable about specs. and althoughi can do much of the work myself i dont want to buy an engine and the mountings dont fit.

Some example questions are: Can i put an Si engine in it? Can i put a 1.6L in it? Now it is SOHC, can i put a DOHC? If i change the engine will the tranny still mount the same? Will the intake and exhaust mount the same.

Please any info will make my project goa little bit smoother!

Thanks,

LakeSide Rider

Well, you can swap in a D16Z6 (1.6L VTEC engine from 92-95 civic EX's) with little, to no problems. Otherwise you can swap much bigger engines in like B16, H22 but it will take much more work and aftermarket parts. Trying searching "engine swap" with the search function on this site. Otherwise google is also a good friend.

thanks dano, when doing the bigger engine swap ( B16, H22) do i have to replace the tranny and other large parts?

I want to so something right the first time and a big enough engine not to regret it later! Anymore advice?

go to street import's website and look at their JDM engine swaps.

they're "turnkey" solutions, which mean they come with everything you need. you'll get an idea of what you need to do a swap in your own car.

as for engine recommendations, I say JDM H22a. the best performance bargain there is as far as honda engine swaps.

I would say the "easiest" direct swap would be an obd1 b18b from an integra. The mounts will bolt right into your car. the ecu pops in. the axles drop in, so does the shift linkage, the wiring harness plugs right in. After a couple months of that you will want more power. throw on a turbo kit and be happy with 250+hp. Plus you dont have to wire up vtec

just my .o2
