'95 Honda Civic Overheat Issue-- Help
 

So I just bought this 1995 Honda Civic DX Coupe -5 MT, and I'm having issues with it overheating. After about 3-4 minutes of driving, the car quickly rises to the red-H, no signs of steam or smoke at all, but the heater does not blow hot air at all when the needle is on H. No signs of leakage at all either. Also, after a bit of driving it the second day, the car smelt of antifreeze and had trouble staying engaged... What could possibly be wrong? And I am open to troubleshooting suggestions. I'm somewhat mechanically inclined, yet know hardly anything about vehicles.

When the engine is hot, does the lower radiator hose also get hot or remain cool? Sounds like the heater core and possibly the radiator are clogged with debris. I recommend that you thoroughly flush the radiator and heater core, replace the thermostat, bleed the cooling system, and then go from there.

Don't drive the car until the overheating problem is fixed as otherwise you may destroy the engine.

ya not to sound like a complete @ss but if your mechanically inclined you would know to shut that car off as soon as it gets close to the H. if you try to push it and just get to a parking lot you could still destroy the motor and warp it all to hell.

but anyways to try and help ya out. if your driving and it overheats then, fist when the motors cool be sure your radiator is full, and if it is full then most likely its the thermostat is sticking closed. thats a cheap and easy replacement and most of the time the problem.

and it will be a good idea to change your oil now and make sure there is no coolant in the oil, if so youve already damaged the motor and blown the headgasket and if your lucky thats all that was damaged and hopefully it didnt warp the head or block.



if you just bought the car and its already overheating then i say the previous owner most likely sold you his damaged turd! i might go get my money back if its not the thermostat!!!!!!
