well, how much faster do you want to be?
If the answer is a lot, either consider saving for a motor swap, or maybe a turbo kit.
If you don't need a ton more power (maybe 20 or 30 horses), maybe get a stage II cam (and an upgraded valvetrain), intake manifold, and a larger throttle body.
Also, consider dropping some of the car's weight... either get things like a carbon fiber hood, or you can ditch the rear seats and unnecessary things from inside the car. But unfortunately, it takes a good bit of weight to make a difference (100lbs of sprung weight = about 1/10 second in the 1/4 mile). Also, lightweight wheels will make a small difference in acceleration and deceleration.

i was thinking about a gsr swap but i realized i can make more power out of the engine i have if i boost it i want to push aorund 250-300 hp im a newb so i'm thinking about buying likw another d16y7 and building it up then swapping it with my current engine and boost that

If you install the turbo kit yourself, $3500-$4000 should get you what you need(non-ebay crap). 250-300HP at the wheels is very doable, even with a stock motor. It's all in the tune. I know 2 people with D16Y8's that are running just over 300HP at the wheels with the original stock motors for over 2 years now with no problems yet. I personally have a 99 EX D16Y8 and have turbo'd and tuned it. I haven't had it on the dyno yet, although I'm thinking with the conservative street tune I made for it right now is maybe putting 225-275HP at the wheels with stock motor, intercooled T3 Turbonetics Turbo system, 440cc RC injectors, ARP head studs, cometic head gasket, obd1 ecu tuned with Crome by me, and 11.2 psi boost and countless little bolt ons(not really needed unless planning to go more boost, which I do). Not proven yet though, rough guesstimate...
I'd just go with ARP head studs, cometic head gasket, block gaurd, turbo system and a decent tune and I think you would be satisfied...for now. Trust me, once you get a taste of 5psi you want more, @10psi you want more, @30psi you want more!!! Boost is just as addicting as crack, maybe even worse!
