96 EX engine swap time
 

I made the choice of going back to an Eclipse (awd turbo) or staying with my 96 EX Civic. I have a ton of stuff done on the civic and figured I would just stay with the Civic instead of doing the whole DSM thing again. So here it goes, and I am hoping as the swap and everything is going along that I will post the DIY, pictures the whole nine yards.

My goal: Boosted, DOHC engine, 5spd, and I have to keep my A/C.

I have a doner car: 97 Integra LS, 5spd. Getting the engine, trans, and ECU for $900. I am sure that I am going to need more stuff off the car, but I have the entire car to work with.

First off is that a good engine (I believe its a B18B1)?
I was going to break down the engine and do a rebuild on it for boosted application.
Should I be looking fo a different engine, like a GSR, or type R, but for $900 I thought that was a pretty good deal for engine/trans/ecu.

Does anyone know of a shop or person that does good engine work, and possibly doing the engine swap in Jacksonville, FL? Thanks guys and I hope that I can get this all together and posted with pictures.

B18B1 is nice for boost because of low compression. You will be satisfied. I would just get the B18B1 because of the good deal.

engine/trans/ecu is $900, I have the rest of the donner car to work with as far as what is needed for the swap. I need the mounts as well right? I have been doing the searches for all that is needed. I shouldn't have to worry about the OBD problem because its a 96 EX to a 97 teg right? LS is non-vetec so if I don't boost it I am not going to see that much difference? I was thinking while I have the LS engine out change pistons/rods, head studs, cams, and have some head work done. Then putting it in the civic. Do I need to do all the engine work to boost it, or can I just put some ARP head studs on it and call it a day?

The b18b is a great motor for boost (and you'll notice a gain going from a d16y8 to a b18b1 even without boost). If you have the donor car, you shouldn't really need much else; I'd recommend you change high-wear components like the water pump, timing belt, ignition system, clutch, etc while the engine's out of the car. You'll need the mounts and axles from the teggie also. And I believe both engines will be OBD2, so you don't have to worry about that.

Hey man you where on when I first got my civi, you where doing a big project if I remember right. Black slammed civic? We bounced back and forth a lot about the suspension I did on mine.

Anyway, so for the swap does anyone know of what ALL I need from that teg, and is there stuff that I am going to need from another car? Sense that LS motor has lower compression do I need to do much to the internals?
