97 alternator

i have a 97 canadian EX (Y7, me thinks) and my alternator seized up on me. based on my limit time and sunlight (damn winter!!) i was wondering what is the easiest way to get at the alternator so that i can get it unstuck or replaced.

Not sure what do you mean by easiest way? I know only two ways - you either remove and fix/replace it yourself, or have a mechanic doing this for you... And I know only one way of doing it yourself unscrew, unplug, and remove...

RE: 97 alternator

Well, I just did it on 92. I don’t think 97 is different in this regard, though.

I jacked the car up to get to the bottom bolt from beneath. Other than that it is pretty straight forward job of removing two upper bolts and connectors, and insanely tedious work of weaving the damn thing out of the engine bay and putting it back there, especially inserting it back into the C-bracket. Removing some wire/pipe holders can help with moving in/out. Some people here recommend removing intake manifold to simplify the process, but I think this introduces too many possibilities to screw something up.

Hope this helps.

if its anything like my 95, remove the intake mainifold, and then unbolt it and thro in a new one, u can do it from the underside, but u atleast need a jack and 2 jackstands
