98 civic ex tdc mark not aligned

while replacing timing belt on my 98 civic ex, found out the crank shaft mark in diagram of this link didn't align up, the tdc mark was 1 teeth left of the pointer: http://autorepair.about.com/library/a/1d/bl982d.htm

since the engine ran ok, put the new belt in and left the misalignment there and things still seem ok (meaning no strange noise, fuel consumption is normal about 30-35mpg for mixed driving before the belt change, haven't drive enough to see if it dropped).

my question is why the misalignment would happen? it was at 100k, so 1st time changing the timing belt. it was running like that out of factory? if i aligned it up, what would happen? do i lose anything (like less power) by leaving it as it is?
