b14a4 engine swap

kk first of all my apologies go out to all of you who probably have to read about these newbie engine swaps every other day but was just looking for a bit of help really,

i currently have a 96 civic hatch (b14a4), at first was considering doing it up a bit but to be honest there isnt alot out there for a 1.4i, so iv decided to start saving for an engine swap,

so what engines would you recommend are best to drop in, i have been reading up a bit about the b16's and they seem quite appealing, are there any others that people would reccommend for better value etc, mayb b18's?? with alot of the b16s i have been looking at they seem to have around 70,000 miles and costing around £700-£800, i would be willing to pay more for the engine itself anyways but what would be the highest mileage you would all reccomend to get, know hondas are good long lasting engines but after going to the effort of swapping the engine i dont want things going wrong with it after a while!!
and with the car i already have what additional things would be needed, new mountings g/box etc??

any help would be gratefully appreciated, cheers people!!!

RE: b14a4 engine swap

you should be able to find a full swap for an EK off of ebay; engine/ecu/manifolds/driveshafts/wiring loom/B series engine mounts/transmission. A full swap like this will probably cost about £1000 for a B16a (158 bhp /114 ftlbs)or B18c1(170 bhp /130 ftlbs. A B18c5 ITR swap would cost about £1500. 70k to 80k miles is perfectly fine if its been looked after, id buy one for 120k+ if it was in good condition. You wont get mileage lower than that, and if you could find one, it would cost a lot.

Both B16s and B18s are good, in my opinion if you cant get a B18c5 get a B16a because the B18c1s cant tolerate as much as boost as a stockb16can and the head design isnt as efficient. If you dont plan on doing any tuning or only mild bolt-on stuff, then certainlygeta B18c1

ok, i appreciate the advice, wud u advise a b16b swap, that 185hp seems very appealing lol!!

there is one goin on ebay atm for 1500, 50k miles

heres a link for it http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Honda-B16b-EK9...QQcmdZViewItem

wat kinda prices should i be looking to get it fitted, a m8 of mine used to be a mechanic and offered to do it for me

but for the sake of chuckin in an extra 200 or sumthing into the project i wud prefer to get it done professionally

as although he says he is confident in doing it he was a purely a diesel mechanic and has never done

a swap before

kk was just wandering before i do my swap what other things can i get for the car, i have just got an induction for the d14a4 but that will be sold on b4 the swap anyways!

just wandering what i can get for the car now that will also go with the new engine!

things like catback systems and front strut braces would still fit fine!?

with the likes of exhaust systems does anyone have any recommendations for manufacturers, would a 3" tail be too big for a b16b!

looking for a nice deeeeeeep tone, but not too loud, one thing i hate is when u hear something coming round the corner which sounds like

the power of a small tank and then a vauxhall corsa comes round with this huge exhaust that u could fit your head up!!
