B16 crank in a b18?

Anyone know what crankshafts can be used in a B18A1? I have a B16A2 crank laying around here and I would like to know if I can use it? If not I heard a gsr crank is the best to use for a LS/VTEC.

with a gsr crank it is not a ls/vtec

ls/vtec uses a ls b18b crank because of it's longer stroke(better mid range tq) a B16 crank in a b18a1 block would be pointless

I guess I didnt point out that Im using a B16A2 head. So the stock crank is fine? So im guessing the b16 crank would just shorten the stroke to a pointless length?

if you do go with the LSvtec setup, make sure you dont try to rev out to 8250 all the time. the LS rotating assembly wasent designed to handle that higher rpm use like the B16,B18C. i'de rev out to about ~7700 max, keep it close to the stock rev limit as close as possible that way you dont blow up a motor

^ then I see an aftermarket crank in the future:D

its not the crank. the crank is pretty tough, its used in alot of the higher horsepower cars, its just the tollerences that weren't designed into the rods and pistons in comparison to the other vtec components.

the LS rods and pistons arent designed to be spun to 8K all day, it'll do it fora little while then the bearings and misc parts that dont like to be spun that fast wont take it and it can/will basically fall apart.

when i do my CRVtec setup in a hatch when i get rid of my Grand prix, im throwing all ARP bolts and studs i can find and get for it. and do anything possible to make it last a long time, thats y im doing research on every possible point in the engine and lookin over everything before i even consider buying the block.

IMO i'de jus stay close to the factory shift points but it wouldnt hurt to go to 8K everyonce in a while, i jus wouldnt do it all the time.

Well I want to get forged rods and pistons in my set up anyway, so I should be able to rev to 9k. Not that I really rev that high anyway, but it would be nice to know that ill be okay if I do it often.

you'll need more than jus rods and pistons to rev to 9K.

you'll need topend parts IE: cams, valvesprings and retainers would be an obvious must.

the stock rotating assembly will spin to 9K (vtec rotating assembly)
if you are building a motor, get an aftermarket oil pump,or an ITR oil pump.

It is not the rods or the pistons that bring up problems in cr/vtec and ls/vtec applications it is piston speeds which in affect is directly linked to the stroke of the crank. ARP rod bolts, acl/clevite main berrings, type r/gsr/or B16 oil pump and water pump along with strict tolerences need to be followed.

Stock GSR/B16 cams can make power till about 8000rpm's, ctr and itr cams will make power slightly higher(8400 to 8800ish rpms) but the stock valve terrain is fine up that high unless you go with cams that have a large lift at that point springs need to be looked into.

I used to know the value of liftstock springsare good to. Maybe 11-12mm? I know you can't run Type R cams on them.
