B16Y8 Engine

Sup! Quick question! How far can you push a B16Y8 engine before you blow the SOB? Also, I want to throw in a Cold Air Intake System. Any suggestions on a good manufacturer. By the way, it's a 2000 Civic EX-5sp, 2-Dr Coupe. It's fun driving it! Hollar back!!

I believe you are refering to the D16Y8 unless you have a swapped engine and in that case it would be a B16 (A or B)

The D16Y8 has more then a lot of people will give. I have the same motor turboed at 8 lbs of boost. And you think yours is fun to drive!!!

As for the Cold air - IMO - I have not been impressed with one over the other. It really comes down to the filter. Make sure its a good one. If you live in a wet area consider getting a bypass valve to prevent water from getting sucked up and killing your engine.

Your right! My bad. What does IMO stand for? Also someone told me that the D16Y8 comes equip with V-Tec. I thought V-Tec only comes equip on DOHCs? Appreciate your response.

IMO = In my opinion

And they are correct it does come with VTEC.

Thinking about going with Injen. As to V-Tec. Is it that small mechanism located behind the valve cover upper left corner?

No VTEC is part of the head and not that easy to explain. When your car reachs a high RPM then an other lobe on the camshaft is engauged causing your valves to stay open longer giving you more out of your car.

Thanks...I'm complete idiot. New to the scene. Thanks for your help. Gonna start with Air Intake, followed by the exhaust, suspension, and then I'm buying some SI rims. Trying to keep it simple.

Thanks! That cleared things up a bit. I'm debating wether or not to keep my civic or trade it in for an SUV. I also have a 2000 Nissan Maxima, but its automatic. I'm not sure if its worth it tricking out my civic. Then again, I enjoy driving it. What to do, what to do. Thanks for your help.

Acutally...Now I'm thinking about swaping it. Looking at a JDM Spec engine. That also means I have to swap the ECU right?
