B18A1 Build Up
Okay so now that I have decided on the 92-93 B18A1 motor I need some more help. What all do I need to do to the block to reach my goal of 400 fwhp? I know I'll have to sleeve it but I want to stay at the stock bore. Can I bore it to say .030 and then resleve it to stock bore? What else willI need to do to hold that kind of cylinder pressures?

RE: B18A1 Build Up
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you need to sleeve for 400hp. I believed it to be necessary when upwards of 550hp.

RE: B18A1 Build Up
Still better to be safe than sorry. But if that's true then I don't have to do anything else correct?

RE: B18A1 Build Up
Get some low compression pistons with new rodsand new valvetrain...like dual valvesprings and some titanium retainers...andsome forced induction cams

RE: B18A1 Build Up
I'm planning on doing all that but I need to build the block first to be able to hold that kind of cylinder pressure.

RE: B18A1 Build Up
I understand you feel the need to reinforce your cylinder walls, but do a little more research. You may be able to save urself the extra 6-800 bux on something more necessary. Not tryna come off as an *ss, just would hate for u to waste ur time + $. I know a guy locally who's running ~440whp with just the list powermidget gave + a good tune. Here are a bunch of examples of big power out here in PA from a local shop called Evans Tuning: http://forums.evans-tuning.com/index...c5af56d4347c9e
I'm sure those guys can give u another perspective rather than just mine. Hope this helps. |
RE: B18A1 Build Up
Not tryin to be anal here but money really isn't a concern on this build. Would it not be better safe than sorry? I mean it's not going to HURT the block being sleeved, I just want other options on top of sleeving the block to fortify it. I mean can I do anything else to make it stronger?

RE: B18A1 Build Up
In that case I'd say sleeving is ur best bet. Forged rods, new piston rings, and maybe a double or triple-layer headgasket. Add that to powermidget's list and u should be set.

FI cams blow. ITR/CTR cams ftw.

RE: B18A1 Build Up
I'm no where close to buying cams yet...bottom end first then top end. But when I do more than likly they will be Comp Cams.
