B18A1 Build Up

RE: B18A1 Build Up
you need to be more specific on what exactly you are going to be doing with this motor, are you going to be running a turbo, nitrous, N/A, supercharger, this will determine what you need to do to the block and what kind of bottom end you need to build, if it was me i would definately sleeve it if you dont you will have problems in the long run especially if your goal is 400 hp

RE: B18A1 Build Up
i look at it this way, i would rather spend the money now and sleeve the block than have to go back and do it later when you upgrade or break something, its easier to do it now than have to go back in 6 months and rebuild the entire motor just so you can turn up the boost

RE: B18A1 Build Up
That's the way I'm looking at it. I'd rather spend the money now while the engine is out of the car and since I'm already going to be at the machine shop getting them to balance and size match the crank why not just have them sleeve the block too? I want to be able to drive this car to and from the strip so I need it to be fairly relaible. I plan to reach 400 hp w/ nitrous and a turbo. I'll have more specs later on but for now if I do fored h-beam rods and an Eagle crank is there anything else I could do to the block just in case, for my piece of mind. I'd much rather be safe for years to come than sorry in 6 months.

RE: B18A1 Build Up
why run nitrous, you should easily be able to accompplish your goal of 400 hp with a decent size turbo, with a sleeved block and forged internal you can run 35 to 40 psi all day long and never have a hick up as long as you have a good tune, the shop i used to manage built 2 different b18 s with sleeved blocks and forged internals and each of them put out over 425 hp on 20 to 25 psi of boost

RE: B18A1 Build Up
More money does not = better. Use the OEM crank. It will handle more power than you know how to throw at it, no offense. Stock sleeves should be fine. They may need to be bored a bit, but that's no big so long as you make sure your shop orders properly dimensioned pistons for the bore. If you just have to sleeve, make sure to get 84mm bore. 81 would be throwing money away.

RE: B18A1 Build Up
sleeving is way overrated, you can make 400whp with forged rods, pistons, a set of cams, and a correctly designed turbo setup with the right tuning and fuel management. You can get damn near that power from a stock B18A

RE: B18A1 Build Up
Thanks for the info guys. I know more money doesn't nessasraly mean the best part. The one reason I'm going w/ Eagle cranks is because I've had great success in the past in 302, 340, and 350 engines. There billet and knife edged straight out of the box. But one more question...What did you mean Kedaweithat I would just be throwing money away if I went w/ the 81 mm bore?
