ok ive been doin reserach for a b20 vtec swap and i was reading about the b20's bottom end and they said that that crankshaft is the same as the b18, so how strong is the shaft exactly. im planing on getting new rods and pitons so that it can with stand the higher rpms but i need some info on the crankshaft

its a forged crank.

it'll be fine. jus balence the stock rotating assembly to be able tospin it out higher.

replace the rod bolts with ARP

i just bought a b18 gsr and was thinking of getting a b20 block... what kind of torque and hp increase would i be looking at? and anybody have any idea how much quicker it would spool a turbo? (gt30r'ish sized)

use the same ECU as your head.

B16 head = b16 ecu
GSR head = GSR ecu
simple

RE: B20 bottom end??

yea this is all pretty much common sense... more displacement = more torque and power.... but does anybody know of anybody who had done a frankenstein motor w/ a gsr or type r head along w/ a b20 block? i'm curious how much power it lays down and what the spooling improvement is....

RE: B20 bottom end??

It all depends on what your running inside the block and head. Iv seen B20's with stock B16 heads make 150whp-170whp. Then you get some 11.5:1 pistons and stage 2 cams, header, intake and your looking at 200-230+ whp. I wanna say that turbo is scetchy cause I have heard that the b20 has thin sleeves but Im sure Marty will come in here and say thats not true. Something to think about.

Heres some B20vtec numbers to look at...

yea to be safe with a turbo your suppost to get aomething welded on the sleeve to reinforce it

your talking of posts or a block gaurd. Im still out on this one as they have been known to slow coolant down and over heating is a huge problem with B20vtecs. I think running 6 or 8 psi would be fine. Id get an oil cooler and huge rad. Only one way to find out right?
