Break in period/oil for a new 08 Civic?

Hello all:
When I inquired about the break in period (First oil change that is), the dealer said that Honda puts in a special oil just for the break-in period and I’m not to change the oil until the oil life monitor tells me so.
The question is, is this Honda oil really “special” for the break-in period? Should I listen to the dealer or do what I have done in the past?
With prior new vehicles, I always changed the oil and the first 500 miles, then at the next 1000, then 3000 to 5000 miles period after that (Normally switching to Mobil-1 at the 5000 or 7500 mark).
I normally change the transmission fluid (auto) at the 15,000 mark.

Thanks

I'd go with what the dealer said. The oil in new Hondas has a lot of an anti-wear element (moly, I think). If you're really concerned, you can have a used oil analysis done.

If you want to do one then search google for "used oil analysis". Blackstone is a company I've seen do a lot of analyses. Whichever company does it, they can tell you what your oil composition is in parts-per-million. They'll also be able to tell you how much of your oil is still useable. The service should cost 30-50 bucks and you'll be able to find out quite a lot about your car in its driving conditions.
