Burning oil in 1997 Civic CX

My Canadian 1997 Civic CX (hatchback) with 329 000 km ( 205625 miles) driven
already burning approximately 4 to 6 liters (3 to 5 pints) of oil
between 6000 (4000 miles) km changes.

Sometimes I see in the mirror blue smoke from muffler at beginning to drive from the traffic lights or
coming down from a hill…
I have to admit that I have a rather heavy foot on my accelerator.
Highway driving: average speed is more than 140 km /h or 90 miles/h.
Honda dealer said that it will look into sometimes in the near future.
What is your opinion?

Thanks...

if you're seeing blueish smoke and losing oil......you're on the road to a rebuild. sounds like rings may be the problem.

Yup sounds like rings. Do a compression test and a leak down test. If you have never done this any reputable shop can do it for you. This will tell you the condition of the engine. If so an engine rebuild is probably in order, but you might want to try to put those (stop oil burning treatments) CD2 works pretty good at the next oil change to try to get a few more miles fom the motor.

RE: Burning oil in 1997 Civic CX

Thanks guys.

My Civic CX is regularly serviced at Honda dealer since day one.
Presently: 1.55 compression and is equal on each cylinder.
Blue smoke is visible only at take-off at traffic lights
or accelerating after the end of downhill driving.

Honda guys said that more likely will be valve seals.
But on the other hand they express concerns that if valve seals
will be replaced a pressure in the engine’s lower part is going to be higher
then engine will lose more oil before repairs…
Honda said that another 300k km will be no problem to drive
except I will have to check and add oil regularly.

What do you think?
