Cam upgrade help needed.
Hey guys,
Im really considering doing an upgrade from my stock cam to a stage I. My internals are all stock including the head and the valve train. From what I heard its perfectly safe to use a stage I on a stock application right? Is it hard to replace a cam shaft, what is involved in doing so? What are some of the good brands out there? Is OBX or Zex any good? |
RE: Cam upgrade help needed.
are u goin to gain power from doing that? What exactly do the cams do?

RE: Cam upgrade help needed.
as far as I know the cam determines how long the valves remain open to allow gas and air into the cylinders, if you get too big of a cam, you are will not be able to burn the extreme amount of mix inside and you will stall out. Yes you can expect HP gains from it, but the amount of gains is determined from your internal and the duration on the cam. Well that is what I got when I first read up on cams a while back, I could be wrong.

Yes, you gain power from cams. I have a list of mods that will be done to the car in a few weeks. From what I know a stage I cam is safe to use with stock valve train, and has slightly bigger lift than stock cam. Should be a 10-15 hp gain at the crank.

RE: Cam upgrade help needed.
come on fellas, lets stick to the question of the thread. I know what Im doing, and all motor is the way I want to go for now. Turbo is too expensive, and I know very little about them. Motor swap, no need. I want to keep my d16 as a daily driver, not a hard core racer. So are stage I cams safe with stock valve train, and what all needs to be done in order to replace one?
