changed thermostat but still overheating =(

first I have a 1982 honda civic hatchback1.3L 4speed MT with only 96,xxx ORIGINAL MILES! justbought it from an old lady :D.....anyways after a few months going home from work and i got into a traffic, i noticed my temperature is not normal. so I got home and buy me a thermostat, thermostat gasket and some o-rings from Autozone and change it my self after that, I run it couple miles with no traffic and my temperature is normal. Then after 2 months it overheats again (with traffic). I noticed that when there's no traffic my temperature is normal but when there's traffic its overheating. What's to be the problem?

my fan works when its overheating but it doesn't cool down.

I went to a mechanic and they said change the water pump, timing belt and flush the radiator since my car is 26 year old car and I'll let you know if it overheats or not...

thanks for the reply...
