Default civic dx with ls motor, swap head to vtec

I have a the civic you see as my profile picture. It was a dx and I put an acura dohc non v-tec, I think it was an A1 but don't quote me on that, due to my budget. I was wondering if i found a b18 B or C or maybe even a b16 v-tec head, how would i go about swaping from a non v-tec to v-tec. Or is it even possible? Do I need the tranny to?

To convert to VTEC, you need a GSR head, or a B16 head. B18a1 and B18b1 are both the non VTEC motors. You would need a VTEC ECU, add wires for VTEC, and a few other things. You can buy a Golden Eagle LS/VTEC conversion kit that has most of what you need.

So are you saying that you can use Integra type R GSR vtec engine like B18C series heads or Prelude VTEC H22/A1 heads with Civic 1.5L non-vtec DX engine?

I have a DX civic, with an acura integra ls motor swap. I also have a totaled civic si I was just wanting to know what it would take to put the si /v tec head on my ls block, and what it would take to do that. Or maybe I could just find a head to swap the ls non v-tec head but i dont think so. Now I know its going to be a lot more work than I thought... Maybe I misunderstood the question, and I know you were not asking me but I dont think you can just swap from sohc to dohc without swaping the entire motor. But I am not a gear head the only thing I have ever done to a motor was clean it and paint it with engine paint I bought from the local o Reilly. I can change the fluids but.... come on...

As long as it is a DOHC vtec b16 or b18c (gsr) you can put the head on. You need to run an oil like, pic the ecu for the vtec, and drop a vtec ecu in as pleth said. As long as you do it right it'll be reliable, torquey, and fast as a bitch. I love lsv, just do it right. The Golden Eagle kit is very useful and if you do this I suggest getting it.
