clutch related noise

This noise exists any time the clutch is NOT pushed in.
Once the clutch pedal is fully depressed the noise stops.
The noise is there if i'm idleing in neutral, or in any gear while driving.
If i'm rolling or if i'm stopped, once I push in the clutch the noise goes away.

It sounds like a constant scraping sound... like a bearing going bad. I would think if it were the throw-out it would make the noise when I push in the clutch instead of going away when i push in the clutch.

Any ideas?

I hear that on my car as well. (Also, on a 98 Civic I previously owned). On the 98, it was a bearing. For what, I have no clue since I am a complete idiot when it comes to a trans.

i would think it would have to be outside the trans as it doesn't matter whether or not it is in gear.

sounds like a throw out bearing, they act in different ways

Mine does the same thing, but you can only hear it while idling with near silence, and it's very faint... I try to ignore it for now.
