cold air or regular air intake.
 
i know the difference between the two. i was told that since i'm not putting my car away for the winter it's best to just get a regular air intake. is this true?

Get a CAI then you can shorten it in the winter and extend it for summer.

if you're worried jsut get an AEM 2-piece CAI and convert it into a SRI in winter.
