crx problem...

well, my lil bro in law just bought my friends 90 crx si. my buddy changed the radiator but didn't have the time to put the thermostat in for my bro in law. so just yesterday, my bro and dad in law just changed the thermostat and cleaned the spark plugs out...it was working fine...even after they were done. now last night he called me up and said that it won't start up. he said he cleaned the spark plugs out, cleaned the distributor cap out...and also changed the thermostat. he said that before it wouldn't start up...he just plugged the breather hose into the intake and it started, but now it is dead. he said that some little metal piece broke off of the cap when he took it off. could that be the problem? please let me know so i can help him out. I looked at every wire on the motor. everything is plugged in and tight. but still won't start up.
