Cylinder #4 barely hits 125psi compression...WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?!
ive got an abnormal hesitation from about 2200-2800rpm or so (not the normal 'honda motor lack of torque crap). comp. tested it yesterday, the first 3 cylinders are normal (about 175psi) but #4 barely even got up to 125psi, and that was with cranking for a while. now, i know your only supposed to have about 28psi difference b/t cylinders, so what could the problem be? rings, poor valve seating, weak springs, etc?? and what are my options. the car runs fine otherwise.

YOu should really only have 10psi or less difference between cylinders, but that's besides the point right now...
If I had to guess, I'd say rings. Have you had a leakdown test run? |

Yes, I would also say either rings or valve seating/fried valve. Not the weak springs, though. You'll probably see exactly what happened when you remove the head. And about options - I really do not see any viable option other than fixing this ASAP, and you'll have to at least remove the head, and possibly go for full engine rebuilt :(

The money you will spend can get you a better motor just to let you know.

does the car burn an oil?
|
RE: Cylinder #4 barely hits 125psi compression...WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?!
nope, doesnt burn or leak any oil. a lil oil is getting to the plugs now tho, so im gonna replace the valve cover gasket and the plug o-rings n such. i know if i fixed it it would cost as much as a better motor, but the fact is i dont have enuf knowledge at the present time to do a motor swap, and even if i had help from my buddies this car is my daily driver so id have to figure out something.
could it be a leaky head gasket around that cylinder?? |
RE: Cylinder #4 barely hits 125psi compression...WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?!
If could be but then youd be burning coolant and the car would be overheating.
