D series Beef up
Hey,
My names Andy andI have a 99 civic dx with a D16Y7 motor. It's a 1.6 liter, auto. I'd like to bump the standard 106 hp to double or maybe a little over double. I was thinking valvetrain like a mini me swap and a few other modsbut was wonderng if there was a better way without adding a turbo or drainging the savings. Help of any kind would be greatly appreciated, Thanks. |
RE: D series Beef up
not a chance that youll ever get it, especially with an auto. Do a mini me swap, manual swap, and then IHE for starters if you dont wanna go boost or engine swap

RE: D series Beef up
If I do that wouldn't I just be better off doing a whole tranny and engine swap like to a manual tranny with a B series enginewith dohc?

RE: D series Beef up
Yeah, you would be better to do a swap... after all the work of taking out the motor to change the tranny, you might as well swap. tp be honest, the D16y7 is not a good engine to build. your better off going with a b series (b18c, b20, b20 w/vtec head) that is pretty much double the hp of the d16, but they're stock. that way you achieve your goal, save time and money, get a pretty new engine and have the ability to really start a good build.
A D16Y7 would be pretty much be really pushing is limits at 200+hp, where as a b series is just getting started. |
RE: D series Beef up
Id have to switch the box though to make ita manualbefore i drop in the new tranny right? A buddy of mine that does rebuilds said its pretty easy to convertan auto to a manual.
