d15b7 engine potential
Ive got a 94 civic dx 5 speed 2 door coupe with the d15b7 motor and i was wondering what the best thing i should do to make it a more potent machine. Does the d15b7 motor suck [:o]? Should i get a Vtec motor and do a swap ? By putting on a intake and exhaust it would still seem thatvtec is the only way to go to make my car perform better. I do hear that these motors last forever though :D.

[blockquote]lets start small, whats your budget?[/blockquote]

about a thousand dollars

RE: d15b7 engine potential
do you really want to go with the hype and go with the mini-me swap? If it was me i would start with what a lot of guys and gals would tell you on this site, If you cant handle the hp and put it to the ground then its a waste. Start with some kind of performance suspension i herd ksports are a cheap awsome suspension, skunk2 is another good one but doesnt have adjusted damnpaning.
If you really want to go with engine performance first you could build a junkyard turbokit for around 1000 bucks for a 50hp gain or you could start with the basics and go with like you said. Intake, headers, exhaust, intake manifold/throttle body |
RE: d15b7 engine potential
keep saving up and boost that bitch :)use the $1000 you alreday have and start buying compenents of a turbo kit until you have everything, then put it all on at once. I/H/E will make a fun a daily driver, and suspension is a must, but if you want some real power, turbo is where its at

RE: d15b7 engine potential
can that non vtec engine handle boost??? even with a good tune ?
|
RE: d15b7 engine potential
Mini-me is going to be your best bet. You can turbo it but your head doesn't flow nearly as well as a vtec head.
Mini-me - $400 Tokico Hp shocks/struts/springs - $350 El cheapo intake w/K&N filter - $75 Short shifter + weighted shift knob- $100 ---------------------------------------- That's $925 and a sweet ride. |
RE: d15b7 engine potential
would a z6 head on the d15b7 block be good enough for boosting maybe 7-8 psi with a good tune
|
RE: d15b7 engine potential
Z6 will be the one you want.
|
RE: d15b7 engine potential
I suggest a Y7 head/Z6 intake manifold combowith a cam re-grind, lifters, retainers, springs, a excedy replacement clutch, stock flywheel shaved as far as it will go(13lbs or so)
