D16Y7

Does it make any sence to start moding this motor? I am up in the air. I have a 99 Civic DX 2door. I have little to no power. I have the cash to throw in a JDM B16A G2 but part of me says, "for $4,500 I can do just about anything to that litle D that I can think of".

Or for the same amount of cash I could make the car perfect (without power).

Anyone with actual real world experience please let me know your opinion.
Also anyone with good or bad D series buildup stories, feel free to chime in.

Thanks.

go for the b16a gen 2 you'll like the power coming out of it and you'll still have money to fix it up i got the same engine with everything i need for 1700 plus installation would probably be another 400 to 700 depending on the guy

it also depends if urs is a stick or an auto cuz the mounts and brackets are gonna be a bitch if it's an auto

personally, i prefer getting everything else done up right first. then go all out on the power.

Junk the y7. The b16 is not going to be fun to put in. Used the motor could go for $2000. Thats as cheap as I'd go for that (you get what you pay for). Not to mention Hasport for things like mounts, axles, etc. All said and done for a well running setup that won't break down you're right, about $4500. That'll put you at 160 hp (not to the wheels). And you'll still run into the torque problem of a low displacement engine. Honestly you could put an H22 in for about the same cash, maybe less. Or you could run a b18b built with a nice turbo setup. Those are fun and expensive options. I say unless you're going all out get a y8, build it, turbo, and you're done. Not even half the cost of the b16 stock and with a bit more horsepower. Not a 10 second car (it's a civic) but a quick car that's fun to drive. Oh and the d16 bolts right in. Or you could take your $4500 and go buy yourself a 2nd gen eclipse gsx or talon tsi either of which would dust the stock b's or d's.

Dont get the second gen eclipse. Ever hear of crank walk? Dumb 7 bolt design.

Anyway Id say you best options would be a mini me swap and maybe a turbo or super charger kit. The b18b would not be a bad idiea either. they can be had for very little cash and a rea great platform. Even though Im not a big fan of LSVtec, its alway an option. Maybe even B20. The B16 woudl prob be the best choice if you were not going to do much more modding after this initial 4500. Maybe save a lil more and go for a b18c1.

OH yeah, BTW I used to spank FWD turbo 2nd gen talons and eclipses in my NA civic. I also still had a 40 shot incase they had mods, never had to use it though. Maybey I just never ran into a fast one.
