What you're thinking about is called a vtec head conversion (mini-me for sohc's). You will need the vtec head, perhaps intake manifold from donor depending on the car, and new head gasket. This should help you out: http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=735196

i read on there that ecu would be change so would i just put a d16y8 ecu into it and it Should work ..should is the key word lol

riceburner700 12-21-2008 05:47 PM

just putting a d16y8 ecu in the car wont make your car vtec. will just throw a CEL. you have to swap out the head with a d16y8 head. and wire up vtec

ej6buddy 12-21-2008 07:39 PM

^correct, the vtec solenoid isn't prewired in the nonvtec motor's wiring harness. You'll be wiring in vtec among a couple other things depending on the head used

Glad it helped, if you have any more questions, just let us know, the mini-me is a fairly common upgrade.
