d16y7 vs. d15z1 - engine swap ?

Heys guys,

Doing some research here on *potentially seeing if it is worth swapping out my existing d16y7 in my '00 honda civic for a d15z1 (which i heard has better gas mileage)..and was wondering if any of you could shed some light on this (since i've never done a swap b4).

a few questions :
  • is it worth it ?..
  • How much worst case can i see myself spending on this project ? ...including all accesories.
  • will i loose alot of HP ? ..i'm not that much of a racer .. but would just like the powa on the road when i need it.
  • How many other items will i have to repace ? ..shocks ?..A/c ? ..Radiator ? ECU ?. ..
  • can i keep my stock AT tranny (approaching 200 K miles) and put it on the d15z1 ? - or should i look into a new tranny ?

Thx all for your time !.

i swapped a d15z1 into my 95 civic sedan, after blowing my d16y7 motor up. if your motor (d16y7) is still good then just leave it like it is, the d15z1 will get a little better gas milage but since you have a automatic i wouldnt waste the time, the d15z1 trans has longer gears to help with the higher mpg. you will also be loosing about 15 hp. and to make the engine work you will have to get a ecu and have it tuned for the motor, the d15z1 ecu has different wiring and a 5 wire oxygen sensor where you have a 4 wire. the cost of the swap to the mpg you save i would say not worth it. you would alos have to wire up vtec (2 wires) from the head to the new ecu, and you would need to convert from obd2b to obd1. and if you have any state inspections or emmissions they will not pass you. e****ially if you live in california.
