D16Z6

Well, I have found out that my mechanic put in a d16z6 when I expected the same engine as the car had, which was a d16y8.

Whats the difference and what would I be better off with?

Also, how much more work did they have to do to put this engine in?

Z6 is better. Head and block are both better.

Work was the same.

I think the Y8 intake mani is better, but I'm not sure... I'd say keep the Z6

D16Y8: 127HP @ 6600 rpm 107 lb/ft @ 5500 rpm Compression Ratio- 9.6:1

D16Z6: 125HP@ 6600 rpm 106 lb/ft @ 5200 rpm Compression Ratio- 9.2:1

I think, if I'm not mistaken, the Z6 gets much better gas mileage.

d16z6>all y motors imo. i had yet another y7 toast near every bearing in the bottom end, this makes 4 y motors ive owned do the exact same thing. i want to know how your mechanic got the CAS wired up as the z6 has no provisions for it on the oil pump.

It's actually quite a bit worse. The Y8 is designed for gas milage, while the Z6 leans more towards performance.

Well, the Y6 says it's supposed to get 31-38 mpg, but my Z6 gets 40 mpg hwy? Is that solely because of intake, headers, and exhaust? Oh well.

RE: D16Z6

40+ is not uncommon on them. Keep in mind also that your car is lighter than '96-'00s. The main difference is the cylinder head design. Everything else is fairly similar.
