dipping idle
when i throw my clutch in, the idle dips too low ( to the point where it cuts off every once in a while/ or the car shakes because the rpms are too low). But then the idle will recover after a few seconds. This is only when i depress the clutch. After it recovers, its fine. It doesn't lag, or sputter when accelerating or at any driving speeds. Any help guys? Thanks!!!

What are you idling at in the first place...i mean before you depress the clutch?

What year? Is the CEL ON?
Try cleaning the IACV on the throttle body (click link in my signature). |
its a 2001, and no the check engine light is not on. I idle at about 7-800 rpms and when i will throw the clutch in it will dip below 500....it will dip into the area where there are no notch lines on the tach (below 500) it dips so low. and i noticed after a while after driving it, it will stop dipping and the idle will stay at about 8-900 when i throw the clutch in.
Thanks for the help guys! |
Hoe clean/fresh is your PCV valve.
A dirty poorly operating one will have impact on idle and fuel consumption. PITA to access but worth the 45 minutes to change it out. |
Does your car do it when it is cool outside? My 92 Civic idle dips when it is Hot outside and when I let go of the clutch idling when the car is not moving. I just replaced the PCV valve with honda oem part about a month ago but it still does it. Next, I'm going to try the IACV like RonJ described since it seems to happen more when its hot.
