Default eg vs ej

Ok so I hate to sound stupid, but here it goes

I have been reading through alot of the information on HCF and elsewhere online and have found that 92-95 civics are generally refered to as ?? EG ?? and sometimes people have numbers after that. EG 5,6 7 8 9 ???? When I was decoding my VIN I noticed that my '94 Civic Ex was something I had not run into yet. An EJ1[&:] ?? When I tried to search for EJ1 it only brought up a '94 ex, nothing else. and I only found a handful of references to EJ1.

I am trying to figure out what the EGs EKs and the EJs mean, as well as the numbers that follow them. And if I am looking for aftermarket parts, should I look for EG parts or EJ specific parts?

thanks in advanced for your help guys.

the term EG is really only supposed to be making reference to the 92-95 civic hatchbacks. The coupes are EJ's.
