Engine corrosion: how to remove?

I recently bought a EK Civic. :D The enging is mechanically sound, less than 80K miles even.. BUUUT the car is from Chicago. The chick who owned the car previously didn't do a good job of winterizing the engine, and thus there is some slight - medium corrosion on the engine. [:@]

The damn thing looks like a bag of ass.:(

Any fixes? Deoxidizer? Kerosine and a brush?

Help! [:'(]

Never buy a used car from the rustbelt if you can help it. The southwest is the place to look.

Alpha,

This really depends on the corrosion! As said above, engine degreaser will only help if it is dirty. If the corrosion is on aluminum, the only way is sand it or sandblast. This is a huge pain as you will pull the engine, disassemble, ect. Not practical!

You can always rough up the surface and paint. This would be the easiest. Well, easier would be never showing the engine to anyone! All this really depends on the type and level of corrosion!
