Engine Problem!! need some help
 

Hey whats u guys i have a very slow problem i got a Automatice 1999 honda civic ex with vtech and when im in Park it revs up to 5,000 rpm and for some reasion knocks back down to 4500rpm then as the engin trys to rise again to 5000 it drops to 4500 so i think its redlining at 5000rpm wic sucks, on the highway it only goes up to 80mph and it will increas to 87 witch is the max i ever did but for it to go from 80 to 89 it take a wail a very long wail but as i asked around some ppl tell me a goveinor (not sure if i spelt that right) or suttin else but i think it might be a engine problem, The car itself is slow even on low gears when i floor it its take off is slow but i think that might be stock or might be coming from the same problem from red lining at 5000 rpm, any help would be more then usefull as im trying to fix this as soon as possible...thanks ya

yup and i got it check out but it says only the cat is bad,i check the cat and there isnt its just a stright pipe so thats y i think its a engine problem or suttin...

It sounds like the cat is clogged, are you sure there is only a straight pipe?
On some civics the cat is by the headers so check there also.

ohh okay, i ask 1 of my friends teacher and he told me that if the cat is clogged or the check engine light is on then the computer goes into limp mode and makes the car operate a diff rpm, n stuff and stuff and stuff lol but does that sound right the limp mode on a honda civic and ima check to see if its got a cat by the headers and also thanks for the info guys :D

Limp mode also cause your car to run rough. Especially in idle it will run rough and cause your gas mileage to go to hell.

well in limp the car might red line at 5k ?? and maybe other simptoms that i have in my civic?? well i know the EX aint made for power but still i know its suppose to do way more then just 80mph right? what would u guys suggest i do in this case? maybe if i replace the cat will it restore its power and if it is in limp mode will it make it go away??
