engine questions
 

hi all, i am new to this whole engine swapping thing, but i have been reading and doing a lot of researches online for the past few days. i am thinking of putting a b18 series engine(i prefer the b18c5) into my 98 civic ek4 hatch. ok, i know if you wanted to boost, go with the b18b; and if you go with the b18c5, you are better off n/a. that leads to my first engine question, which is better? an engine with a turbocharger/supercharger or an engine that is naturally aspirated, in terms of driveability, reliability and of course the feeling. second, what are the adventages of having an engine that revs higher, say 9000 compare to 11000.

ok, now for the swap questions. i know when you swap 98 b18c5(complete engine with transmission, shift linkage, etc) into a 98 ek4, you have to get new motor mounts, do the whole vtec wiring(they are both obd 2, right?) and it is prolly better to change the timing belt, water pump, distributor cap, crank pulley, clutch and flywheel (correct me if i am wrong). but do you need to get stronger axles? and how long will it take a guy who is not very good with tools to finish the job? is 280 hp @ wheel too much to ask from a b18c5(fully bulit of course)? last question, is JG Engine Dynamics a good company, cause i think i am going to get one of their turnkey engine packages. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thanks. (i do apologize if i sounded like an idiot and the length of this post).

N/A is the most relible...the advatange of revving higher is you stay in gear longer...making usable power longer...less shifting...also, the best.. (in my opinion) is turbo, for feeling of power, but with every power adder your are reducing your reliablity no matter what....however with a good tune, you shouldnt have many problems...super chargers are pretty good....mild power, but with no lag. however they generate all kinds of heat,(for intake air)and can result in hood clearence problems. just do your research and look at what kind of goals youwant, how much power you want...etc.

High compression, high revving N/A setups are just as prone to failure as a boosted motor

thats what i ment if i wasnt clear.....i mean with anything you change, no matter what, you are increasing the chance of something going wrong.

i would go with the C5 but its going to cost you a ton, unless you get just a regular b block and put on a c5 head. but any b series motor will be a good swap.
