Default Engine rebuild.

I was thinking about rebuilding the engine in my '92 corolla, while I still have the jetta. I just needed some advice. I wanted to know, which parts I'll have to change, and basically, what knowledge do I need to have before I open up my engine. Any tips, and pieces of advice will be greatly appreciated. thank you.

u better know a lot about your motor to do that. and it all depends on if you're going to stay n/a or go with forced induction.

No, I want to stay N/A. This is going to be my winter beater, not a project. I was just thinking about cleaning it up, changing the gaskets and maybe port the head to the manifolds. Not sure, what else I will need to change, but I'll try to get the cheapest parts possible for the above stated reason.

just get a rebuilt 4age and swap that in. they are pretty cheap and it will give you a nice hp gain.

I was thinking about that too, but I want to go with the cheapest option possible, because I want to save up for my next project, which will be a 240sx(if i'm able to locate one)

you can probably get a decent 4age for less than a rebuild on your 4afe. look around a little first. im not sure, but its worth checking.

So i could actually get a 4age for less than a price of rebuild? Ramember, I would only pay for parts, since I would be doing all the work by myself.

anything else I need to know before doing a rebuild? I've never done anything like this before, so I just needed to know what to take into attention.

I was reading this post, and am also considering rebuilding my engine with help from somebody experienced. If I can get a good engine without all that work, I would consider it, not looking for anything fancy. Could you tell me what a 4age is?
Thanks

4age is a code for a motor for toyota. It is found in older Corolla GTS models, MR2s, as well as JDM corollas (Levin and Trueno).
